Street Melons

Heyo, how was your weekend? Mine flew by, filled with good eats and fun times. I know I’ve been saying this for awhile now, but our time here in Guangzhou is really coming to an end now– less than 10 days left!!

The weather has been great lately: clear skies and bright sunny days, and shoot, I don’t know if my body has acclimated to the humidity, but it just doesn’t seem as hot as it was last year! Vendors have set themselves up close to our house, selling coconuts and huge slices of melons, for any passer-by wishing to beat the heat. I’m always tempted to try these luscious looking fruits, particularly the huge slices of melons that are sold on sticks.

About Jessie

Thanks for stopping by. This blog was borne in late 2010 as a way to document the sights, eats, and experiences in Guangzhou, China. After two years, six countries, numerous meals, and countless encounters with locals later, I'm back temporarily in Washington, DC (and I love it). I'll be jetting off again to Africa in 2013, so keep on coming back for some good reads!

  1. It’s amazing what you kind find on the streets! When we were in Phuket, we saw a cart that sold seahorses on a stick. Gross. At least the watermelon seems healthier.

    • Thanks for stopping by, Megan! It seems like anything can be sold on a stick in Asia, doesn’t it?! I’ll be moving to Tanzania in a year, and am so excited to be in Africa for the first time. Will definitely be making a trip to S. Africa, so most likely will be in need of some tips from a local ;)
